2010/11

Post  villainies on Mon May 23, 2011 3:18 pm

Pretty much a season to forget for Villa. With the right signings I think we could've enjoyed a decent season but when nothing materialised and then MON dropped us in it and we lost Milner it was clear this season was going to be very tough for us and so it proved to be. Ireland proved to be a total waste of space, we had a terrible injury list for the first half of the season and a midfield that was nowhere near the level to maintain our position of previous seasons. Don't know what happened with the two centre backs but they looked well off it for most of the year. Not until Bent arrived in January has the club seriously addressed our attacking options and this proved to be the best signing we've made in many years and showed that Lerner is still supporting us. I really hope the manager thing is sorted quickly either way althoug i'd prefer someone new, so the mistakes of last pre season aren't repeated. Our targets should be Spurs, Liverpool and Everton and with the right player in over the summer I think we can be up there competing with them in 2011/12.

You'll be competing with Norwich/Blackburn/Wigan/Wolves etc if Bent gets injured.

Without his goals you may well have gone down.

we have had one bad season, by the way one that equals blues best ever in the prem, i don`t expect us to be challenging the top four next season, but with a few decent players in, we should be a top eight team

We will be in and around 6th.. will bring in another winger if Youngs off and also a midfielder who can control a game from the middle.. that will be the attack n midfield sorted.. a tweak at the back and we will be fine.. we finished 9th in what is regarded as a terrible season so how the feck are we going to get any worse esp with new players coming in..

Ben Foster
Scot Dann
Taiwoe ( LB )
Walker onloan again
Charlie Adam / Kranckear
N Zogbia if Ash Leaves

All realistic tagets and would make us very very competitive next season..

Cant see Spuds letting us have Walker on loan again, think he will be in their team next season.

How long is Dann out for, think he got a bad injury. Foster would be a good buy, especially if Friedel is on his way. Really hope we manage to keep Downing, he would be a major loss.

It makes it even more remarkable that we finished 9TH. Unable to field our strongest 11 for the majority of the season, MON leaving 4 days before the season started. Although we have been lucky with how the league has been in general, Houllier deserves credit.

First time I've heard this, all the talk has been exactly the opposite and a job as stressful as prem management would be a disaster.

Yes but who has all the talk been by, people on here, journalists, alan hansen. Not once has anyone at the club said that they didn't expect him to return, quite the opposite.

The fact we are going after his transfer targets was a big enough clue that he would be back at the helm for next season.

av, my source is telling me no way should he be managing next year at that level and the club would be taking a risk.

If he gets the clear from the specialist then how exactly would it be a disaster?
