Why? You start a Downing thread, one thread above another Downing thread. I just assumed it was your insider knowledge as it was so important to start a new thread.

Yep, one thing we have seen with Villa, over both Milner and Barry is that we won't let a play go on the cheap.

Personally, I think all this talk of £16 million is bollocks, why let him go for just a 4 million profit, we will hold out for more. The papers just love to have a wankfest over Liverpool anyway.

The problem is now, if Downing does stay, because he is such a fanny on the pitch, next time he bottles out of a tackle, which will be first game of the season some fans will get on his back.

Don't think we'll be starting next season with Downing now , we'll let him go for £17m or £18m in order to get players in that we need - keeper/ striker/ CM. Not convinced we have much money to spend without selling him, I reckon we're looking at a few tough years coming up.

£20m for a player of Downing's quality is an absolute joke. He's a fairly above average winger who really hasn't justify a price tag of that amount. Villa should leap at that amount of money.

Bullshit, at the price other players are being paid for Downing is worth every bit £20m if not more.

So he is not worth as much as Henderson Rolling Eyes

There again, I recall someone taking the p when Villa bought Ashley Young, saying he was average. Cant remember who that was Shocked

We haven't been offered that amount of money though have we?

As AVFC says, in the current market, that's his value, it's his value to us and someone else will most likely pay it if they want to take him from Villa.

Personally I would be happier if he turned round and said he wanted to stay at the club and sign a new contract but that ain't going to happen as he will be hard to replace, even if we have £20 million.

We'll end up replacing Downing and Young with players who have potential rather than being at their peak. One or maybe two decent seasons later and they'll get sold and we'll do it again.Boring predictable fucking Premiership.
