New keeper?

Post  QBVILLA on Thu Jun 02, 2011 8:36 am

Friedel seems to be on his way out of the club leaving the new manager with a big task of getting in a solid number one.Been a lot of talk about Rob Green Sad but hopefully that will be unfounded. Who would you like to see come in? There's some good candidates out there who i'd expect Villa to be able to tempt.
Al Habsi (Bolton)
Foster(Blues)
Gilks (Blackpool)
Robinson (Blackburn)
Given (Man City)
Kcuzyack (Man Utd and if i've spelt that right then i'm amazed)
Westwood (Coventry)
Camp (Forest, though I don't think a teamsheet containing Young Camp and Bent is advisable)
Lewis (P'boro)
Stockdale (Fulham)

Of those mentioned i'd prefer Given or Robinson.Whether a season on the bench has done for Given remains to be seen though.

My main issue I have with Given is he doesn't seem to be able to complete a season staying fully fit.

To be honest, from that list I would pick Robinson, however that Rangers keeper could be an option but i haven't seen much of him.

Westwood is free and highly rated, guess you could go a different route and get him in, and say the Blackpool keeper, Gilks is it who is also on a free and let them battle it out?

Really not sure on keepers to be honest on what's best to do.

I'd go for Foster or Robinson, who was excellent for Blackburn last season.

Me neither, think he is shit and will be expensive.

Remember seeing him playing for Watford at Villa park and I though he was awful.

Would prefer him over Rob Green though, however I would prefer nearly anyone over Rob Green.

There's that bloke with bags of experience who was tipped to be chosen for England a couple of years back although he's a Spaniard, Manuel Almunia Very Happy !

I see where your coming from and i wasnt till last season. But there arent many top quality keepers around. Al Habsi looked brilliant last season but is he just a one season wonder. Middle eastern keeprs are generally rubbish. Personally would keep Freidel. His mistakes only get highlighted due to his age. Still top notch IMO..

He didnt look brilliant when he let Young's free kick in at VP Shocked . Freidel looked dodgy to me for good part of season, but finished it very well. Need two keepers IMO as Guzan aint up to it.

From that list, I'd prefer we sign Given. Foster wouldn't be bad at all - he's probably friends with all the England internationals we've got in our team so I can only see that as a positve, he'd settle in straight away.

Some right shite on that list, its a sad thing that there aint many good keepers around nowadays. I'd go with Given from that list, reckon he'll end up at Celtic though. Robinson or Foster will do fine.

Only negative to that is two of our three England internationals look like they may be on their way out Sad

Plus the fact, any time our players go away on international duty they seem to come back wanting to leave.
