Blackburn

Post  roadoftrinity on Fri Aug 19, 2011 8:00 am

This is a very important game for McLeish, agree with the team that he played at Fulham but at home, Blackburn will be more than happy with a draw so hopefully he will do what our last couple of Villa managers have rarely done and change the team dependent on the opponents.

My team would be -

.....................Given......................
Young...Collins...Dunne..Warnock
Albrighton.Petrov.Delph..N'Zogbia
..............Bent.......Gabby..............

I also think McLeish will go with this team, other than he might have Albrighton and N'Zogbia on different wings. Think we should win if we play this team, if Heskey is in for Albrighton I don't feel we will create enough.

Going for 3-1 to Villa.

I can't see him leaving Heskey out but I do agree with the side you've gone for.I'd like to see Ireland in some capacity tomorrow as well.I'd actually consider dropping Petrov, playing Delph deeper and starting with ireland or even bannan in the centre

I just cant see dropping Petrov been an option, it leaves us to open, I know that not many people are fans of Petrov, but if you look at the stats at the end of the game, he always makes the most interceptions out of anyone on the pitch. Plus when NRC was playing, they used to make about the same amount of tackles as well.

We definitely could find someone better than Petrov in the transfer market, but I don't think we have someone in our squad. But for the moment for me, he can just sit, give the ball to the other players, and them 5 should be able to create something and score the goals.

Also, I want to see Delph given the chance to push forward, created and link up play. I was really impressed with him in the first half against Fulham, and I feel that he really could be our best player if he says fit.

If he insists on playing Heskey, hopefully he will play Heskey on the left like he has done in some pre-season games, and play Bent and Gabby up front together.

I think Heskey is much better suited to playing in the hole. Very Happy

When we are playing sides that will come to Villa Park to win then i'm all for having Petrov in the side.I can't see Blackburn taking the game to Villa and as such i'd have one of the fullbacks tucking in to make a back 3 when we are on the attack with the two central midfielders pushing higher up the park.

I like that team and it probably represents our best 11 at the mo so I hope its given a chance. Still worry about Petrov/Delph though.

Think that works in theory, but I've seen MON do that a few times when we have been chasing the game. The players just seem to get lost. I think that was down to it was never done in training though, and just an off the cuff idea by MON during the games.

Anyway, I can't see any McLeish doing that so we are stuck with Petrov until we get Parker in. Very Happy

New Aston Villa boss Alex McLeish gets a rousing reception from the home fans as he heads for the dug-out. A win today would really win them over.

Wasnt expecting that
