£58.1m 13 players. No The feckin bell nosh only purchased 30 players, it's not a good hit rate is it?

Selective arguing there slaphead. On Downing, Milner and A Young he made a profit of around 27 million. In his time at VP he also turned Barry from a decent Pl midfielder into an England regular before selling him on and making the club an 11m profit. Look at the players he bought and inherited who's careers developed under his management and values increased. Take the 2m he paid for Friedel, imo best keeper we've had since Bosnich. Can't argue that he signed some stinkers but if you're going to make it into a debate, then surely you have to balance the argument to give it some validity?

9 players £59.45m

Petrov 6.5m a good and well needed signing at the time.
Carew swap deal good business
Young quality
Friedel quality
Cuellar £7.8m good player, over priced and played out of position.
Milner £12m quality but DOL can also take credit for him.
Downing 10m good but not around long enough to judge accurately.
Collins 5m to be fair could easily have made the Other list he had one good
season and has been shit otherwise
Dunne 6m see above

Not great reading is it? Lerner was naive no doubt but feck me MON's legacy is absolutely shocking.

Every manager buys crap, and MON brought his fair share but as QB says, he also made a nice tidy profit on a few players.

The main issue was, MON brought some average players that were given ridiculously high wages, signing a back up right back on £40k a week is one of the worst. MON is obviously to blame in an extent, but the club are more to blame for allowing these wages to be paid. We were of course aiming for the Champions League so I guess they were looking at a different playing field, but still, the financial planning should have been far better.
