Given Downing has 0 assists and 0 goals this season I would say we replaced him fine with Nzogbia.

We didn't replace Ashley Young, and while a very good player he isn't the difference between top half and relegation, mcleish has done wonders to take us down that far.

Great point.. and also Young was shite for us in his last season.. falling over at the slightest touch..

Nah he was still good. Played behind the striker which was a new position, and while he wasn't as effective there he still got a few goals and assists.

Yes he's a diving cnut but Young and Downing are big losses to us. N'Zogbia doesn't get through half the work those two each did. When you see the England squad and see that Milner,Young,Downing and Barry are it, then it'd be churlish to say we haven't missed them. N'Zogbia aint fit to clean their boots

Just going on this season stats though QB, Downing been no loss at all, and no way should he be in the England team.

Here's a little fact for you Ades

Ashley Young for Villa in 10/11 = 7 Goals, 11 Assists

Ashley Young for Utd in 11/12 = 6 Goals, 11 Assists.

and AVFC, agreed about Downing. N'Zogbia's been more productive.

Fucking hell Jay Very Happy .. just making a point regarding what Conk man said.. Young was poor for us in his last season considering he was our main man.. he took every free kick with us and pens.. doesn't have that luxury at Utd..

We know both are losses to us.. no one denying that

Downing was easily our best player last season, he's been shit for Liverpool but no way has N'Zogbia replaced him.

I'm talking about what they've done in a Villa shirt. The bonus of both Young and Downing was the defensive work they did. N'Zogbia is downright idle and the amount of times we've seen opposition fullbacks ochestrating attacks against us was imo the reason both N'Zogbia and to an extent Albrighton failed to nail down a regular place. By the way i agree Downing shouldn't be in the England squad.

Martinez back at favourite. 1 year after he fecked us off he's back at the top of the ladder. At least he will prevent us from getting relegated.

Actually this is probably the best time in years to take over at Villa.. manager would have instant backing from the fans and after such a dour season some good football and results is all the fans want..

Well Lerner flies in on Tuesday to Villa Park every week, no doubt we'll see some movement this week.

I think there are 2 things that are holding up the current search.
Firstly I think RL is waiting to see if Martinez is going to be offered/accept the Liverpool job. Secondly I think that they are also waiting to see if Roberto DiMatteo is going to be offered the Chelsea job. RDM is free and no compo involved if Chelsea send him packing.
Lambert I`d say is firmly in mind but I dont believe that any contact has been made with him or Norwich yet. The longer that stays that way I think Lambert will tell Villa to go jump,as will he realise he wasnt 1st choice.

Just my opinion.
